Indian Punjabi Wedding, Very touching!!! Truly reflects the love parents have for their daughters and how difficult it is to give them away.

There are commonalities in ritual, song, dance, food, and dress. The Punjabi wedding has many rituals and ceremonies that have evolved since traditional times, including many famous Punjabi dances.

Wedding Process

Sarbala/Shabbala: A young nephew or cousin also dons similar attire. He is called the sarbala/shabbala (caretaker of the groom) and accompanies him .

Sehrabandi: the groom's sister ties sehera to his turban.

Varna: The groom's bhabi lines his eyes with surma (kohl). After this, the groom's sisters and cousins feed and decorate his mare. varna, a ceremony that is supposed to ward off the evil eye. The cash is given away to the poor.

Milni: (means "Introductions") The Ardas is performed by the priest (Giani) followed by the formal introductions of the main male players in the families. Example is both eldest Chachas (father's younger brother) will come together and exchange garlands of flowers and money. After or during the wedding, ladies will do the same thing, but a much smaller affair.

Jaimala: After Milni, the bride and groom come in the middle of the circle where the family is standing, and place a heavily made garland made of flowers on each other to state, they accept each other and will love and live together with one and other.

Kanyadaan:Bride's father puts a ring on the boy's finger and then he gives his daughter to the boy. This ritual is known as the Kanyadaan. It is after the kanyadaan that the pheras begin.

Pheress/Lavan: In a Hindu Punjabi Wedding, Agni (sacred fire) is usually encircled seven times. In a Sikh Wedding, the Bride and Groom will walk in tow around the Guru Granth Sahib four times.

Nikah: Nikah is Muslim marriage ceremony. Nikah is the contract between a bride and bridegroom and part of an Islamic marriage, a strong covenant (mithaqun Ghalithun) as expressed in Qur'an 4:21.

Walima: It is one of the two traditional parts of an Islamic wedding. The walima is performed after the nikah, or marriage ceremony.

Juta chhupai. This is when the girl's young relatives grab the groom's untended shoes and hide it away to be returned after the ceremony for a fee which is Kalecharis of gold for the bride's sisters and of silver for her cousins. This joyful custom is called juta chhupai.

'Post-Wedding Rituals:

Vidaai/Doli: Vidaai marks the departure of the bride from her parental house. As a custom, the bride throws phulian or puffed rice over her head. The ritual conveys her good wishes for her parents. Her brother’s accompany the bride. Her relatives throw coins in the wake of this procession.

Rituals Observed at the Groom's House:

Pani vaarna. The groom's mother performs the traditional aarti with a pitcher of water. She makes seven attempts to drink the water from the pitcher. The groom must allow her to succeed only at the seventh attempt. The bride must, with her right foot, kick the mustard oil that is put on the sides of the entrance door before she enters the house.

Phera Dalna: the newly weds visit the bride's parents on the day after the wedding. The bride’s brother usually fetches them.

Dedication to Quality, Love for the Art....

Leonard Hon was a small town boy with big dreams on his shoulder; a video camera and the passion for the art of videography. He would eventually grow to study and graduate from the Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA) with a major in Video Production, during which his penchant for working with a video camera has already blossomed - shown in his winning of the Drama Department’s Music Video Award in 1998, where he won the awards for Best Videography, Best Directing and Best Art Direction, aside from a nomination for Best Video Editing.

Upon graduation, Leonard joined ESPN Asia (located in Singapore) where he worked as a studio and ENG cameraman, furthering knowledge on his craft. In the two years under ESPN, he handled the studio lighting and operated broadcast pedestal camera.

Returning to Malaysia, Leonard headed out as a freelancing videographer where he would provide videography services for events, corporate videos and his first ventures into wedding videos. Leonard would eventually join and work with MiTV as Senior Video Editor, while continually doubling as a freelance wedding videographer behind work hours.

It is at this time when Leonard realized that the country is short of competent and passionate people in the wedding video industry, and after MiTV dissolved he started a full time videography business where he quickly began focusing more towards shooting weddings; an art that he fell in love in his earlier videography days.

Leonard’s approach to wedding videos is to capture the subtle stories of each wedding, making every wedding video he shot unique to the wedded couple. He narrates each scene with passion and an eye for details, making sure that every precious moment is captured in clarity along with its emotional depth and significance. With his dedication to quality, and his unending love for the art, Leonard’s videos transcend beyond what that is merely a ‘video’ of the occasion; he captures the moments, stories and the heart.

How to Hire a Wedding Videographer

How to Hire a Wedding Videographer

Wedding Video Pricing

Like most things in life, in wedding videography there are highs and lows of the pricing spectrum, and it is up to you to see how much investment you want to make in your wedding memories.

At the most basic level, the wedding videographer can capture your wedding so you can watch it when you go home. If you ask a friend or a relative to act as a videographer, beware that you video may be shaky and have low quality which will take away from enjoyment of watching.

At the high end, you can ask wedding videographer to do anything that you wish. Here are some of the considerations you should have.

Wedding Video Budget

First, figure out your budget. You should ask the wedding videographer about the wedding packages. You can get either one or two cameras to film your wedding. If your aim is to have good quality of the wedding video that you can enjoy for many years in the future, and not only to save money, always choose two cameras. It will give a possibility to see the event from two different angles, and you a feeling of watching a movie.

Wedding Video Styles

Next, ask wedding videographer about the style. There are two most common styles of wedding videography: cinematic and documentary.

Cinematic Wedding Videos

In cinematic style, the video is carefully planned and sometimes posed as in making a movie or film and the video is captured and edited for the dramatic effect and mood.

Documentary Wedding Videos

In documentary style, the wedding video captures the activities of the wedding day candidly, and often includes moments the bride and groom never see on their wedding day, being occupied elsewhere. Wedding Videographers who work in the documentary style shoot as much of the wedding day activities as they can, then select the footage that best creates the narrative of the wedding.

If you can't see video samples of previous weddings on the internet, you can make an appointment view a videographer's samples in person.

Videographer Equipment

Next, ask about equipment. Good quality sound is as important as a good picture. If you can't hear what is going on, the likelihood is that you're not going to be able to watch the video further.
You should also ask how the wedding is edited and how long it will approximately take.

Videographer Qualifications and Competency

Most importantly, you should find out whether the wedding videographer has proper techniques and troubleshooting ability to start and complete your wedding video competently. Troubleshooting you ask? Yes. In a live event, like your wedding it is rare that everything will always go as planned. Your wedding videographer needs to be able to instinctively adapt to whatever unforeseen things may occur to ensure that your precious moments are caught and immortalized onto your wedding video.
